Human Acts

This article was written by Alla Eshcheko and Steve Almas from CNN and published at 3:02 pm on December 29, 20013.

A devastating event happened in a train station a Volgograd, Russia. A suiside bomber reportedly killed 16 people and injured 34. What would drive someone to do so? What could have been in the mind of that person?.

No one knows exactly who the killer could be. Suspected to be a woman, she used about 10 kilograms of TNT before passing through the metal detector at 3:45a.m. (local time).

The reigional governor stated that most people injured were in a critical condition. No one knows why these people are bombing. These events are suspiciously close to the where and when Winter Olympics will happen.

All I know is that the human race needs to stop an think for a minute. Who would find enough drive to do such a disastrous thing! I cannot fathom how we as humans deteriorated to such violence. Yes we all think for ourselves, but do our thoughts have to be so different that we literally destroy ones self being and take others with them? I for one wish for the best of these situations and hope for a new light, a new way to fight and solve things.

EU?

This article was written by Marie-Louise Gumuchian and Diana Magnay from CNN on December 12, 2013 at 11:11.

Viktor Yanukovych, the president of Ukraine, is leaning towards signing to closer European ties which gets thus closer to Russia.

Ukraine has a close bond with Russia who gives them gasoline. The people of Ukraine don’t want closer ties with Russia. They fear that soon they will be swallowed up by the country and not be considered European anymore.

Because the president wishes to sign the EU, People have begun to protest. Sadly when they protested the government fought against them this angering the people more.

This is only my opinion, but if Ukraine is going to have protest, the government needs to listen to it’s people!! Never should one force another down for it only makes them angry. As for me, my opinion on whether to sign the EU I am undecided. Ukraine should figure this one out on their own. Other countries need not to disturb their quarrel. Things like this always get resolved in the end.

Saint Peter

Thus article is written by Bryony Jones from CNN and published at 1:36 PM on November 24, 2013.

Pope Frances has decided to put St. Peter’s bones at the publics view. His bones were reviled in a mass on St. Peter’s Square. Kept in an urn, the bones are not proven to be St. Peter’s because there is no DNA proof.

To thie Christian belief, this is a very important event. People went on a pilgrimage just to see these bones.

Having been to the Vatican and having seen the coffins of the Popes before is a rather momentous feeling. You feel utter most respect for them and have a moment of realization. Here you stand in front of a dead man who had one of the highest honors in the Christian Religion. And yet he lays here dead…. Doing nothing. Being able to look at these dead people is an honor itself.

Then you realize again…. These are just people like you and me. But unlike you, they have had these holy experiences not fathomed by people like you and me. Having St. Peter’s bones shown to the public is a momentous day.

Don’t Just Blame El Ninio

A typhoon that is predicted to be one of the worst in history is named Typhoon Haiyan. And estimated 10,000 people were killed. People are frantic and looting from stores and ATM machines. The people are mad at authorities and the president Benigo Aquino III who are taking a slow action to the disaster.

The people are left with no electricity, water, food, homes, and crowded hospitals. Luckily the UN’s World Food Program is looking to help the Philippines by sending food. Enough food for 120,000 people.

I agree with the people when they say that the Philippine government isn’t taking enough action! We can’t all just blame El Ninio and just leave it at that. You need to take action!!!! To help we can donate and volunteer instead of sitting around! Let the People of the Philippines get better.

A Growing World

This article was from CNN written by the CNN staff and updated on 4:37 pm on October 25, 2013.

surprise surprise! a whopping 441 new species has been found in the amazon in the past 4 years. That rounds up to about 110 species a year! Thanks to scientists and researchers, the world can expand their knowledge about the earth and its inhabitants. I think that it is important to discover new species so that we can learn more about the ecosystem and all of its functions and what that species does to impact the environment. It’s also good to find new species so we can protect them and keep them from being extinct.

Here is a list of some of the plants and animals that have been found.

1. Callicebus caquetensis is a type of titi monkey that purrs like a cat. This monkey was found in the Amazon basin.

2. The Chironius challenger is a snake with big round eyes found in Tepuis on the mountains of northern Amazon.

3. My favorite discovory was of a flower that is called Passiflora longifilamentosa which is a species of passion flower. It was found in Brazil’s para state and has long purple filaments that look like tubes.

Now of course this list isn’t all of the species for it would take forever to write, but these were a couple of my favorites. I love it when new species are found and I hope that even more can be discovered.

Get Together

This article was written by Laura Smith-Park and Columbus S. Mavuga from CNN. It was posted at 4:57 AM on September 26, 2013. The title is called “Poachers Poison 87 Elephants in Zimbabwe.”

In Hwange National Park. A total of 87 elephant carcasses have been found. It is believed that poachers poisons the natural salt licks with cyanide intending to kill these gigantic beasts.

The park has so far found only 51 tusks. Leaving the 123 to be taken by the poachers. Savior Kasukuwere, Zimbabwe’s Environment minister, plans to make a more constricted prison laws for poachers. So far 5 have been convicted and 3 have been arrested.
The International Fund for Animal Well-fair estimate that an elephant dies due to poaching every 15 minutes! Sadly there is a high demand for ivory so poachers kill elephants in record quantity.

I know Zimbabwe is a developing country, but their should be much stricter laws due to this topic. Rhinoceroses are becoming extinct due to poachers. In this case, poachers have gone too far by poisoning the elephants with cyanid. The dead elephants will be eaten by other animals and they too will die of cyonide poisoning. It is a deadly cycle that could cause the death of many other species of animals.

Because of poachers, elephants and even the rhinoceroses are victims of this cruel act. Other countries besides Zimbabwe should deal with this situation and not just sit and watch like its a movie. This is not fiction, this is life and more people need to get together and fight for the elephants. People need to see the reality.
